Sean spent his early childhood in the Canadian wilderness, living in remote cabins steeped to the roof in snow. His father was a carpenter and author, and during the long winters, Sean fell to sleep at night to the sound of his father pounding out words on a manual typewriter. That sound must have gotten into Sean’s blood. From Ontario, he moved to Miami, Florida, eventually attending the University of Florida, where he majored in Political Science. He moved to Nashville to pursue a songwriting career, and wrote about a thousand songs over the next decade, then back to Florida where he started a family and turned to writing fiction. Objects of Wrath was Sean’s first novel, which turned into a successful trilogy, and he is also the author of Tears of Abraham. Sean loves to interact with readers via Facebook, Twitter, and Goodreads.

Medical preparedness is a bedrock of any complete personal preparedness plan and it goes much deeper than having a closet full of Band-Aids and gauze. That’s why I wanted to talk to Prepper Nurse, a popular YouTuber in the preparedness community. Prepper Nurse has worked full time for the last 23 years as a RN and it is that real world experience, seeing thousands of patients at their very worst and very best in the most challenging of circumstances revealing the best and worst of the human condition, and it is that perspective that shapes and underpins her preparedness opinions. She also holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, as well as a Bachelor of Arts Majoring in Political Science. Immensely practical and driven by a lifelong passion for learning, PN has learned first hand what helps people to heal and what destroys health, what strengthens people, as well as what makes them vulnerable. Living as a practicing healer for all of these years has given PN insight into how to best prevent illness, disease, and injury by matching people to the information and skills they need to not only survive, but thrive after an emergency or disaster, as well as in very day life.

Gail Tverberg is a researcher who is trying to figure out the connection between energy limits and the economy, and what this means for our future. Her background is as a casualty actuary, working in insurance forecasting. She does not take the views of other researchers as a “given.” Instead she tries to do her own investigation, going back to many primary sources of information.

Gail’s views are published on, where she makes them available without ads or donations. She also publishes a few articles in the academic literature, including Oil Supply Limits and the Continuing Financial Crisis.

She is a frequent speaker at many types of conferences, including an invitation to speak in April 2017 at a European Commission workshop on “New Narratives of Energy and the Economy,” in Brussels, Belgium.

Gail is a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society, and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries. She has a master’s degree in mathematics from the University of Illinois—Chicago. She first started writing about energy issues in 2006. Between 2007 and 2013, she was also a writer and editor on the group web site, under the pen name, “Gail the Actuary.”

Alice Friedemann, the granddaughter of two scientists, is not a professor! Alice, however, is genetically predisposed towards doing extensive research and exhaustive reading, much of it accomplished as she read while walking 10 miles round-trip between home and office. A systems architect and engineer for over 25 years, she retired to devote more time to science writing on energy, ecology, climate change, whole grains, agriculture, infrastructure, and pollution of the environment, and too many other topics to list. She has recently come to see that the larger framework of her research is the fall of fossil-fueled western civilization from dozens of factors, though oil, being the master resource that makes all others possible — especially heavy-duty truck, locomotive, and ship transportation dependence on oil — is the main factor. She has a B.S. in biology with a chemistry/physics minor from the University of Illinois. She is the author of “When Trucks Stop Running: Energy and the future of transportation” (2015 Springer) and has published articles online at,, among others.
